Ever wondered what it would be like to sleep on a beautifully restored wooden navy vessel in the Norwegian fjords, with the best ski touring conditions just a short boat ride away and a private chef?  Welcome to HMS Gassten and Fjord Adventures!

This is a ski touring Norwegian style in the spectacular Sunmore Alps where near vertical mountains rise from the fjord to dizzy heights. Each day HMS Gassten’s tender will take you to new areas carefully chosen by your internationally qualified mountain guide. At the end of each day the ship’s chef will have prepared a delicious meal carefully sourced either direct from the fjord or from local suppliers.

This is a totally unique experience with no other boats in the area offering this same experience and blanket ban on the use of helicopters or snow mobiles. Share this experience family or with old friends. Either way you will have skied six out of the top ten ski tours as voted by Norwegian Mountain Guides.

Skin up past Viking huts and trails leading through pine and birch forests, emerging onto open slopes and mountainous terrain where native guides carefully assist in reaching the summit. From the summit, HMS Gåssten can be seen anchored in the fjord below.  An unrivalled descent of the mountain awaits with clean lines and knee-deep light powder.

Guides will even pass on skills of how to build speedy snow shelters and forage for wild food, with an everlasting appreciation for the native environment

Bladet: 1200m

This tour is a steep ski at the mouth of the Hjørundfjord.  It takes about 6-8 hours and is one of the most challenging yet stunning tours available.  The distinctive needle top lies to the right of both summits – Mohns and Randers.  The view from Bladet is one of the finest in Norwegian Fjord Skiing. This is one of the reasons why it was recently voted in Norway’s top 5 ski tours by the Norwegian Mountain Guide Association.

Why Oregon? First Impressions

Since recently returning from Oregon, a complete convert to what is now one of my favourite US states, I was intrigued how many others have Oregon on their list of places to visit. Why should that be a surprise, it has everything from skiing on Mount Hound to surfing at Canon Beach. People’s interest in […]

Norwegian Cruise Experience

Our first trip to Norway has been hugely positive experience; we found the Norwegians hospitable, friendly, endlessly helpful and hugely efficient and organised. But it was their unique individualism which we found so refreshing. Our memories will be of wonderful healthy food, walls of colourful knitting wool in small boutique shops, small children who happily […]
