Luxury Dog Sledding Experience

Designed for adults in mind this micro adventure is a great opportunity for adult groups and couples to jump feet first into the thrilling world of dog sledding on the edge of the Arctic Circle. However, rather than staying in hastily made camps this micro adventure offers the luxury of a boutique wilderness hotel, Bean Laponia.

Just 60 km from the city of Rovaniemi each day and night you can hurtle through peaceful forests, under the dancing Northern Lights, driving your own team of huskies. You will learn how to manage the dogs and how to handle them both when they are attached and detached from the sled. Although friendly and welcoming a good stroke, they would rather be running. In fact, you soon learn, unless you tether the sled to a fixed object or you or someone else is on board with your foot on the brake, there is always a real risk that they will just take off!

Day 1 - Arrive Rovaniemi from Helsinki

Arrive Rovaniemi from Helsinki

There are numerous ways of reaching Rovaniemi including flights with Finnair and Norwegian via Helsinki. It’s a great opportunity to add a short city break to your itinerary which the Lonely Planet describes as a city “spectacularly entwined with the Baltic’s bays, inlets and islands, Helsinki’s boulevards and backstreets are awash with magnificent architecture, intriguing drinking and dining venues and groundbreaking design”.

Day 2 - Beana Trail...husky safari along beautiful forest trails

Beana Trail...husky safari along beautiful forest trails

You will share the dog team, sled and driving time with your partner. After the break you can take turns for mushing (driving the dog team).

At first we’ll get to know the dogs and equipment used and possibly learn how to harness the dogs. You’ll be given a thorough driving lesson and safety instructions before the safari so you to feel confident handling the dog team .

Total duration is 2.5-3 hours, this time includes a break in the forest for having hot drinks and taking pictures. Distance driven depends on the number of participants, weather conditions and the skills of the participants. Suitable for beginners, no earlier experience needed. Small groups, max 12 participants (can be more participants on request for groups.)

Day 3 - Laponia Day...a day to remember!

Laponia Day...a day to remember!

During this husky safari you will mush along beautiful forest trails and have a delicious soup lunch around the campfire  in the forest. Each participant has one’s own 4-dog team to handle.

Duration of the safari is approximately 5 hours. Distance driven is 40 km depending on the weather conditions and the skills of the participants.

No earlier experience needed, suitable for beginners. But the combination of Beana Trail on the first day and Laponia Day on the next  is a great idea! If booked two times Laponia Day we have different trails for the second day.

This long husky safari requires a normal physical condition (must be able to run short distances with ease). It is not suitable for persons suffering back/hip/knee problems. Nor recommended during pregnancy.

Day 4 - Husky Safari...a different level

Husky Safari...a different level

With 26 years of organizing husky safaris in Lapland the owners of the dog sledding are confident of saying that you are in the best hands … or paws, when on one of their safaris. Their dogs take part to the longest sled dog races in Europe, and their head musher, Aki Holck, is one of the best long distance mushers in the country. Their racing dogs also run the safaris among our safari dogs.

Dog kennels are within a few minutes walk from the hotel and the safaris start near the hotel area. Safari routes run along the river ice, climb up to the top of fells and dive deep into arctic forests. The trails are exclusively in our use, there are no other safari companies operating and no mass departures of dog teams here. You can safely concentrate only in the dogs and the beautiful Arctic nature.

Add husky safari to your stay in Beana Laponia and you Lapland experience will be elevated quite in a different level.

We recommend combinations of husky safaris. Book both Beana Trail and Laponia Day, or two times Laponia Day when you can have 2-days adventure but spent the night in your comfortable hotel bed instead of the forest cabin. For real sports: Beana Trail, Laponia Day and Back to the Basics and you will have 4 days with dogs!

Day 5 - Back to Basics...a night away in a remote cabin

Back to Basics...a night away in a remote cabin

After given thorough safety and driving instructions you will meet your own team of huskies with whom you will be bonding next couple of days. Driving distance on both days is approx. 40km. You will have a camp fire lunch on the way and arrive to our overnight cabin before evening.

Cabin is basic but warm and charmingly cozy. You will share the cabin with the fellow participants. First you will take care of the dogs, you will help feeding them and then it is time to settle in, prepare the dinner ,enjoying the company and naturally, when in Finland, time for Sauna!
There is no running water or showers but traditional wood heated sauna. Toilet facilities are also different than what you are use to: it’s an outhouse.

Next day is a full mushing day and safari ends around 4 pm. Warm thanks to the dogs and farewells to the guides and you will be taken back to the normal life ( to hotel Beana Laponia at least).

You need only your personal things and spare clothing to take with you. Your guides will take care of the rest: full board, bed linen, towels, head lamps.

Each participant will have an own team of huskies to drive and take care of, normally four dogs per team.
You should be in a reasonable good condition (able to run short distances with ease) to take part to this adventure.

This safari is done with the minimum of 2 persons and max 6 persons. If all are same party the max can be 8 persons. There will be one Huskypoint guide for 2-4 guests and 2 Huskypoint guides if 5-6 guests. You will be in good hands!
