If you are looking for your first great American family adventure but don’t have months to drive around in an RV, or want to pay for loads of internal flights to get you to the corners of each state then we believe our Great American Family Adventure offers you a realistic road trip that offers enough of a experience without you feeling you have spent your time packing and unpacking.

Explore iconic destinations and landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz in San Francisco, experience the wonders of whale watching and surf life on the West coast, get your fix of the great outdoors by visiting Yellowstone National Park and take a trip into big sky country and a bygone era of cowboys and the Wild West.

Day 1 - Touchdown San Francisco International

Arrive on a direct fight from the UK and collect your luggage before being effortless driven to your hotel by a private transfer. On arrival freshen up before taking a walk to stretch the legs before diving into a local restaurant for a full American!

Day 2 - See San Fran on a Segway!

See San Fran on a Segway!

Take a 3 hour Segway tour taking in all those iconic landmarks you have previously only read about or seen in the movies. Experience breathtaking views, exhilarating hills and come away with a fantastic perspective of what San Francisco has to offer.

  • Segway along San Fransico’s famous Fisherman’s Wharf

A quick ferry boat ride from San Francisco will take you to The Rock, where you’ll explore the prison blocks, cells, and outlying buildings that made up the most feared prison in the United States. Learn about the island’s history from some of its more notorious inmates through the award-winning audio headset tour, available in eleven different languages. Return via ferry whenever you’re ready!

Day 4 - Whale watching at Moss Landing

Take a day trip to our friends at Sanctuary Bay Whale watching and head out to see these graceful and magnificent mammals on bio fueled boats. With trained biologists on board you will hear first hand about the different varieties and how changing climates and pollution is affecting our oceans. They have smaller boats and offer more time at sea which allows you to find the animals and spend more time observing them. We recommend making the trip to Moss landing because the water is calmer and the Monterey Deep Water Canyon is a known feeding ground for whales. The waters off San Francisco can be a little turbulent and not that comfortable for those who dont have their sea legs!

Day 5 - Roam the city of San Francisco

Take a day to roam the city. Head to Chinatown for lunch, the USA’s second largest in the USA. Watch the Giants play baseball at the AT&T stadium , visit Union Square used during the American Civil War to rally support for the Unionists. Fortunately the square is also bordered by a number of recognisable departments stores. Then head to the Mission neighbourhood for burritos and books!

Day 6 - Head to the iconic Rockies

Head to the iconic Rockies

Head to San Francisco airport for the domestic flight to Jackson Hole and the second part of your Great American Family Adventure. On arrival collect your all American Chevrolet Tahoe and head towards Teton Springs and your private cabin for the week.

Day 7 - Explore the cowboy town of Jackson Hole

Explore the cowboy town of Jackson Hole

Today you can explore the cowboy town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming’s most cosmopolitan town and during the winter one of the world’s most iconic ski resorts! Wander into the venerable Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, have an organic lunch at the Harvest Bakery & Cafe or just walk the boardwalks watching both people and the occasional Elk walk by. In the evening catch a rodeo or even opt for a gentle hike.

Day 8 - Elk, moose, bison, bears and maybe even a wolf

Spend the day in Yellowstone National Park, the first and odlest national park in the world. Watch Old Faithful erupt and send between 4000 and 8000 gallons of water into the air with a hiss of steam. See elk, moose, bison, bears and, if you are very quiet, wolves go about the daily life surrounded by Geysirs and steaming mud pits. Watch the dramatic waterfalls at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the must see Mammoth Hot Springs,best described as a cave turned inside out!

Day 9 - Horse riding trek in Big Hole Mountains

Try a 2 hour or full day horse ride in the Big Hole Mountains, through open fields and lush aspen groves in and around Teton and Jackson Hole.

Day 10 - Visit Grand Targhee

Visit Grand Targhee

During the winter Grand Targhee becomes a mecca for powder hounds. In the summer the same lifts help transport you very quickly to the top of the mountain where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Teton mountain range. Perhaps after a picnic you can gently amble back down the hill. Back at Teton Springs head for the pool and enjoy soothing fresh water on tired feet!

Day 11 - Try mountain biking along numerous trails

Try mountain biking along numerous trails

If you haven’t already tried mountain biking then perhaps today is a good day to try. Choose from any number of trails from the more challenging to the gentle paths. You could even consider cycling to the Snake River and having a fly fishing lesson. You can either gently float down the river fishing as you go or walk-wade for the really authentic experience.

Day 12 - White water rafting on the Snake River

A family white water rafting trip is called for after a gentle day yesterday. You will get wet but you will be more focused on the excitement riding the rapids over 8 miles and enjoying the beautiful scenery in the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. Professional guides will teach you how to paddle, hoot and holler all the way down rapids such as The Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter!

Day 13 - You decide! Try and pick just one experience to repeat!

Day 14 - Time to head home

Time to head home

Time to go! With a bucket full of amazing experiences and unique adventures you will feel like you have been away for months. Each of you will have your own favourites but what an amazing time you have had as a family and how many memories will resurface for years to come not to mention the pair of cowboy boots and the Stetson you are wearing on the flight home!
