Explore Quirky Canmore While Skiing in Canada

Quirky Canmore

One really fantastic place the Summit & Blue team loves spending time in is Canmore, in Alberta. It’s about 80kms from Calgary, just on the outskirts of Banff National Park. It’s also only an hour from the accommodation in Lake Louise, so it’s well worth stopping off on your way to or from the park.

The town has a really laid-back kind of ‘hippy’ vibe and the downtown area is packed with funky galleries, boutiques, shops, cafes and microbreweries. There’s just something really homely and warm about Canmore – we love it.

Eat to the Beat

There’s a big focus on organic foods here, and you can get a great healthy and hearty meal at any of the outdoor (and indoor) cafes and restaurants. You can literally eat your way around the world with everything from authentic Mexican, French, Brazilian and, of course, good ol’ Canadian at the Wandering Elk – where you can also get some incredible views of the Rockies. Cocktails and dreams on tap!

For those looking to sample some of Canada’s finest beers, the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company is always popular with our guests, and you can even do a tour of the brewery. It’s a great place to spend a couple of hours relaxing and winding down from a hard day of activity skiing, snowboarding, or whatever else you’ve been up to. Amazing how a good beer can soothe an aching muscle…

Art With Heart

You might not think you’d get too much art and culture while you’re on a safari skiing in Canada, but Canmore has a thriving art, dance, music and performance scene. For arts and crafts lovers, the galleries around town cover everything from painting, folk art, ceramics and sculptures to installation and performance art events. The amount of talent on display here is incredible, but then it’s not surprising with the inspiration that’s on the doorstep!

Get Nordic

The Canmore Nordic Centre is at the heart of the region’s cross country ski trails – and it’s just minutes from the centre of town. With over 100 kms of trails, they vary from family-friendly forested paths to world-class competition routes.

The real joy of Canmore is its spectacular setting and it’s authentic, laid-back ambience. It’s a place we love to kick back ourselves, so we love being able to share it with our guests whenever we get the opportunity. When you’re skiing in Canada, there’s really not much that can beat a massive day out pounding the snow, followed by a few local beers, a great meal, and a bit of live music – and Canmore’s one of our favourite places to enjoy just that!
