Canadian Family Adventure

The United Kingdom would fit into British Columbia ten times so our Canadian adventure has been designed to offer a small glimpse of all those elements that most people most associate with Canada: the buzz of a lively city, grizzly bears feeding on migrating salmon, colourful fresh water lakes, snow capped mountains, breaching whales and untamed wilderness.

Our Canadian family adventure takes in the buzz of Vancouver and the tranquility of Nimmo Bay in Canada’s wilderness. The city of Vancouver has been voted as one of the world’s top ten cities to live in and offers everything from cycle rides around Stanley Park to whale watching. The famous ski resort of Whistler is only an hour and a half north by car which in the summer becomes a mecca for activity seekers offering white water rafting to some serious downhill mountain biking. To the south you have the United States and nurmerous possibilities to extend the trip and include another great outdoor destination, Oregon.

Nimmo Bay Resort, only accessible by boat, float plane or helicopter is a unique family run wilderness resort. With just 9 rooms it offers an intimate adventure from whale and bear watching to paddle boarding with sea lions and fly fishing. Each day you will have an impressive range of activities on offer from hiking to sea kayaking. If you would rather take a more sedate option then jump on board the resort’s own boat and watch dolphins surfing the bow wave.

Arrive into Vancouver International direct from the UK

Fly into one of Canada’s most beautiful and cosmopolitan cities and spend two days relaxing and soaking up the way of life that makes Vancouver the world’s fifth most attractive cities to live in.

The Loden is a contemporary boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver, steps from Coal Harbour, Gastown and the Vancouver Seaplane Centre. With 77 contemporary rooms ranging from Signature, Park Vista, Garden Terrace, one bedroom suites to the Halo Penthouse each category is designed to be practical without being over the top. Warm vanilla and coffee colours set the tone for a great family hotel.

Day 2-3 - Fill your days with exciting experiences from whale watching to cycling

Fill your days with exciting experiences from whale watching to cycling

Once you have found your feet, head to Jericho Beach or English Harbour for a guided sea kayak trip with EcoMarine, SUP (stand up paddleboard) taster lessons, an Orca sight-seeing boat trip, cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge – the longest suspension footbridge in the world, take a ride on the Grouse Mountain Skyride and get close up views of grizzly bears at the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife. We would recommend renting bicycles and heading to Stanley park and then over to Granville Island where there are great places to eat and refuel!

Day 4 - 8 - Head to Nimmo Bay Resort

Head to Nimmo Bay Resort

There are a number of ways of reaching Nimmo Bay Resort. From downtown Vancouver you can take a SeaAir charter and make the 1.5hr flight direct to Nimmo Bay. Alternatively you can take a Pacific Coastal Airlines flight from Vancouver International to Port Hardy and jump on the helicopter of float plane waiting there to fly you the 20 minutes across to the resort (included in the price).

Once you arrive at Nimmo Bay you will check into your Forest or Intertidal cabin and start planning the days. There are so many experiences available we recommend that we plan them in advance although some will be weather dependent. If you have a special occasion why not arrange to have a picnic on top of one of the surrounding mountains complete with table cloth and wine. Alternatively head out for a unique whale watching trip on board ‘The Dance’.
