We all want to return from a break with a sense of achievement and a feeling that we have made the most of every moment. We also know that it can be quite daunting looking at a new activity when you have no prior knowledge of what to expect or where to go. You can find a million reasons who not to take that first step, but not many for why you should.
Ski touring is one of the fastest growing winter sports as skiers look for fresh challenges away from the confines of the pistes and lift systems. Backcountry touring is a ‘soft’ introduction to this activity which generally involves off piste skiing within a normal ski resort, with the addition of a short touring hike to transport you to untouched areas that can only be reached by hiking upwards. This allows you to do more downhill than uphill in the day. As confidence grows, you can then progress to several hours of hiking upwards, with just a short, yet hugely rewarding, off piste descent.
We have teamed up with a number of experienced and fully qualified mountain guides across North America and Europe to help you make the easy transition from keen observer to exhilarated participant. Our guides will run you through the basics: what to wear, the equipment you will use during the day, mountain safety and well-being. Our aim is to start you gently so you can enjoy the experience without the uncertainty that might accompany a longer trip where you are fully committed to the activity each day. Once you’ve got the ski touring bug, Summit and Blue will help you progress to experience more remote destinations, whether that’s inside Norway’s Arctic Circle or traversing the Wapta Icefields.
In most of our locations across Europe and North America we can arrange for you, family and friends to experience first-hand this highly rewarding world.
