A Taste of Ski Touring in Samoëns
A Teaser of the Ski Tour Experience in Samoëns
At just over an hour by car from Geneva Airport, Samoëns is very easy to reach, making it a great destination for a short trip with friends or with the family. From the village, situated on the floor of the Giffre Valley, the views of the surrounding mountain tops are absolutely stunning.
Samoëns is linked to the Grand Massif, an area that includes this village as well as Morillon, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Flaine, and it is to the ski area appropriately named the Grand Massif that we take those individuals looking to try ski touring for the first time on our Zig Zag Ski Tour Adventure.
Getting Out and About With the Zig Zag Ski Tour Instructors
Zig Zag is a top class ski school in Samoëns and they are our number one choice for ski tour introductions. The instructors have good levels of English so everyone can understand what they’re supposed to do, and the professional mountain guides are there to safely lead the way to hidden valleys and untouched powder fields . Furthermore Zig Zag can provide you with backpacks and all the other ski touring equipment that you’ll need.
In the three days that you are in the mountains, you will start with climbs of approximately 1,000 metres, which allows you to take things fairly easy and absorb (and capture!) the breathtaking mountain views around you and get used to the equipment.
What about the Accommodation?
The accommodation you will be staying at, Residence La Reine des Pres, is situated centrally in Samoëns and the 2, 3 and 4 bedroom private apartments have modern sleek interiors with access to an indoor swimming pool and Spa, useful for easing aching muscles. It’s within easy walking distance of the village centre and the main ski lift. By the way, if you decide to go into the centre one afternoon, Tiffanie’s Bakery is one of the best patisseries in the world I know…
It’s probably useful to mention that, although this is a ‘Medium Activity Level’ holiday, you will need a good level of fitness in order to fully enjoy the experience of ski touring. If you have individuals in your party who would rather take it somewhat easier: an ascent up into the Grand Massif in a ski lift allows for some amazing views and enjoy some of the excellent mountain restaurants.
We at Summit and Blue are always there to help you to make the most out of your first ski touring experience and if you have any questions about this holiday (or if you are totally convinced and want to book with us NOW), give us a call on 01243 929121.
